Computer Access and Support.

Every Kawartha Lakes Public Library location has public computer stations for use.

Your library also offers technology training classes and one-on-one assistance with using computers or your mobile devices. Please see more information below.

Access a Computer

To access a computer you need:

  • a Kawartha Lakes Public Library card

Visitors and those waiting for identification with a Kawartha Lakes address may ask for guest access to a computer.

General guidelines
The general guidelines for computer usage are:
  • time may be limited to one hour sessions
  • those under 16, will need a parent or caregiver to sign a Public Internet Access Agreement form so you can use the computers. 

Check with your branch staff for more information on computer use.

What do the public computer stations offer? 
Public computer stations offer:
  • word processing (Microsoft Office)
  • image editing (Microsoft Paint)
  • internet and email access
  • printing (fees apply)
  • access to all Kawartha Lakes Public Library online resources
Wi-Fi

The Kawartha Lakes Public Library offers free Wi-Fi access at all locations, no card or password required.

In order to access the Wi-Fi at our locations:

  1. Make sure your device is Wi-Fi compatible.
  2. Select Public Library WiFi as your network and launch your web browser. This may happen automatically after connecting.
  3. Read and agree to follow our Internet Access Policy.

If you have trouble connecting, please ask staff for help.

Early Literacy Stations

Early Literacy Stations are designed for kids aged two to eight. They feature over 4,000 learning activities. The fun, interactive and engaging content spans all seven curricular areas.

Early Literacy Stations can be found at Bobcaygeon, Dalton, Fenelon Falls, Kinmount, Kirkfield, Lindsay, and Oakwood branches.

iPads and Laptops

The Fenelon Falls Branch has a collection of six iPads and 4 Chromebooks. You can use these devices in the library to practice your technology skills and to access the library's online resources. The iPads and Chromebooks were generously donated by Pharmasave Fenelon Falls.

Technology Training Classes

Class is now in session! Technology Training Classes are held at the Lindsay Branch in the basement meeting room.

Classes are free to attend, last for one hour and are offered on two different days and times during the class period.

There are six places per class. Pre-registration is required. Privacy Protection for Seniors has room for more than six students.

You can pick up a brochure listing all classes and times at any Kawartha Lakes Public Library branch.

  • September 13: How to Use Your iPad/iPhone - 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
  • September 16: How to Use Your Android phone/tablet - 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
  • September 17: How to Use Your iPad/iPhone - 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
  • September 19: How to Use Your Android phone/tablet - 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
  • September 30: Privacy Protection for Seniors - 11:00 am - 12:00 pm *six-student limit does not apply to this class.
October 2019
  • October 3: Microsoft Excel for Beginners - 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
  • October 8: Getting Started with Facebook - 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
  • October 8: Getting Started with Instagram - 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
  • October 9: Intermediate Excel - 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
  • October 10: Privacy Protection for Seniors - 11:00 am - 12:00 pm *six-student limit does not apply for this class.
  • October 16: Getting Started with Instagram - 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
  • October 16: Getting Started with Facebook - 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
  • October 17: Intermediate Word - 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
  • October 17: Intermediate Word - 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
  • October 28: Microsoft Excel for Beginners - 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
  • October 28: Microsoft Excel for Beginners - 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
  • October 29: How to Use Your iPad/iPhone - 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
  • October 29: How to Use Your Android phone/tablet - 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
  • October 30: Intermediate Excel - 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
  • October 30: Intermediate Excel - 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Practice Sessions

One hour drop-in practice time will be available for class students on select days. This is for students to ask further questions or practice their skills with an instructor present to support them.

Practice sessions will be offered on the following days:

  • September 19: 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
  • October 4: 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
  • October 18: 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
  • November 1: 2:30 - 3:30 pm

One-on-One Training (Waitlist ongoing)

Your library offers the opportunity for you to book a half-hour, one-on-one training session to help you learn about using a computer or your mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet.
