Strong Female Voices: Canadian Authors to Read This February

February is the perfect month to curl up with a good book, especially one written by a Canadian female author! Whether you prefer print books, eBooks, audiobooks, or enjoy watching stories come to life on screen, Canada is home to an extraordinary range of women writers whose works span genres and generations.

Margaret Atwood remains one of Canada’s most influential literary voices. With decades of acclaimed writing behind her, her latest release, Book of Lives: A Memoir of Sorts, offers readers a reflective look at a remarkable career. Atwood’s impact extends well beyond the page, with The Handmaid’s Tale becoming a globally recognized television series and a sequel series set to premiere this spring.

For readers who love contemporary fiction and romance, Carley Fortune has quickly become a favourite. Her emotionally rich, summery novels have captured widespread attention, and her upcoming release, Our Perfect Storm, arrives this May. Mystery and thriller fans may also want to explore Shari Lapena’s newest page-turner, She Didn’t See It Coming, which delivers the suspense she’s known for. Genre-spanning author Kelley Armstrong has more than fifty published titles to her name, and her upcoming release, A Deadly Inheritance, arrives this March.

Finally, no celebration of Canadian female authors would be complete without Louise Penny. Best known for her beloved Chief Inspector Gamache series, Penny’s thoughtful and atmospheric mysteries have earned international acclaim and inspired a television adaptation. This February, discover—or rediscover—the incredible storytelling of Canadian women writers and find your next great read at the library.
