Seed Library: Borrow, Grow, and Return

Whether you are planting your first garden or have years of experience, the Seed Library is a free way to discover new plants, grow your own food and flowers, and share with your community.

Take seeds, grow them at home, and if you are able, save seeds from your healthiest plants to return to the library. Together, we can help keep the collection growing for future gardeners.

What Is a Seed Library?

A Seed Library is a free community resource that offers vegetable, herb, and flower seeds for you to grow at home.

You don't need a library card to use it, just visit one of our Seed Library locations below, choose the seeds you would like to plant, and get growing!

Where to Find a Seed Library

Seed Libraries are available at our:

• Lindsay Branch
• Kinmount Branch

Stop by either branch to browse the selection and take home the seeds you would like to grow.

How to Donate Seeds

The Seed Library grows thanks to donations from our community.
At the end of the growing season, consider saving seeds from your healthiest plants and donating some back to the library. Seeds can be returned to either the Lindsay or Kinmount Branch.

Please:

1. Place seeds in one of our paper seed envelopes or a sealed bag.
2. Label the seed variety.
3. Include the date the seeds were collected.
4. Return them to the circulation desk.

To help everyone enjoy the collection, please take only the seeds you plan to grow this season.

About Our Seed Libraries

Kinmount Branch

The Kinmount Branch Seed Library is supported by the Friends of the Kinmount Library. Each spring, they partner with the Kinmount Garden Club to host Seedy Saturday, where visitors can pick up seeds, meet a Master Gardener, and get gardening advice. Funds raised during the event support library programs, and any remaining seeds help restock the Seed Library.

Lindsay Branch

The Lindsay Branch Seed Library launched in spring 2026 to help more people discover the joy of gardening and seed saving through our motto: Borrow • Grow • Return.

The collection began with a variety of vegetable and flower seeds and will continue to grow with support from community donations.

Seed Saving Tips

Saving seeds is an easy way to grow your favourite plants again next year while helping the Seed Library thrive.

For the best results:

• Save seeds from healthy, mature, open-pollinated plants.
• Let seeds fully ripen before harvesting.
• Remove any pulp or plant material.
• Allow seeds to dry completely.
• Store them in a labelled paper envelope or airtight container.
• Keep them in a cool, dark, dry place until you're ready to plant or donate them.
