Pride at the Library: Stories, Resources, and Community

Throughout the year, the library strives to be a warm, welcoming, and inclusive space for all members of the community. Through programs, collections, and community connections, we aim to create opportunities for people to feel represented, discover new ideas, and engage with diverse experiences and perspectives.

Connect Through Stories

One example is our Rainbow Book Club, which invites readers to explore diverse voices through monthly selections featuring 2SLGBTQIA+ characters, authors, and themes. These conversations help foster connection, understanding, and a celebration of the many stories that make up our community.

Rainbow Story and Play is a welcoming drop-in program for 2SLGBTQIA+ families with children ages 0–12. Younger children (ages 0–6) can enjoy a fun, staff-led storytime, while older children (ages 7–12) take part in games, crafts, and engaging activities.

Discover Resources and Support

The library also maintains a dedicated Pride webpage that brings together curated resources for all ages to learn about and celebrate the culture, history, and lived experiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. This collection includes books, digital materials, and community resources designed to support understanding, foster inclusion, and highlight diverse voices and stories.

Celebrate Pride with the Library

Every June and early July, we join our community in celebrating and honouring the history, achievements, and ongoing advocacy of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and its allies.

This year, we are excited to once again offer our popular Pride Challenge Card. This fun activity invites participants to complete a variety of prompts at their own pace. Each square offers an opportunity to learn, reflect, and celebrate the culture, history, and experiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

On Saturday, June 27 and Saturday, July 4, younger patrons can create a colourful rainbow wand, perfect for dancing, imaginative play, or simply brightening up the world around them. Stop by your local library branch during open hours to make your own special wand.

Join Us at Pride in the Park

The library will also have a table at Pride in the Park, taking place on Saturday, July 11, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Victoria Park in Lindsay. This free, family-friendly event is the anchor celebration of Kawartha Lakes Pride Week (July 6–12).

The library is here for everyone, offering stories, spaces, and programs that help people feel seen, included, and connected to their community.
