Your library card does more than give you access to books! With Freegal Music, you can discover new artists, revisit old favourites and build the perfect playlist for any occasion, free through Kawartha Lakes Public Library.

Whether you are looking for music to power your workout, soundtrack a road trip or help you unwind, Freegal makes it easy to explore a world of music from your computer, phone or tablet.

What is Freegal Music?

Freegal Music is a digital music service available free with your Kawartha Lakes Public Library card. It lets you stream and download music through a web browser or the Freegal Music app.

Explore millions of songs across a wide range of genres, browse curated playlists, discover new releases, create playlists of your own and access additional content such as music videos and audiobooks.

Unlike a paid music subscription, Freegal is provided as a library service, with no separate monthly subscription fee. You can also download songs for offline listening, making it easy to enjoy your music when you’re away from an internet connection.

Getting Started

What You Need

A valid Kawartha Lakes Public Library card.
Your library card barcode number and PIN.
An internet connection to initially access Freegal and stream music.
A computer, smartphone or tablet.
For mobile devices, the free Freegal Music app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

How to Get Started

On a phone or tablet

Open the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Search for Freegal Music.
Install the app.
Open the app and find Kawartha Lakes Public Library when prompted.
Enter your library card number and PIN.
Start searching, browsing and listening! Use the options beside a song to download it for offline listening.

On a computer

Visit the Freegal Music page in our digital library.
Select Log In.
Enter your library card number and PIN.
Search for a song, artist, album or genre, or browse the available collections.
Select the play or stream option to listen, or choose the download option beside a song to save it for offline listening.

No special music software is needed to use the browser version.

Inside the App: Helpful tips

Browse to discover something new. Not sure what you want to hear? Explore genres, new arrivals, trending tracks, artists, albums and curated playlists. It’s a great way to find music you might not have searched for yourself.
Find a playlist for every occasion. Look for playlists inspired by different moods, activities, genres and decades. You can also create your own collections for everything from a Canadian music playlist to your next road trip soundtrack.
Can't find the song you're looking for? Try searching by artist, album or song title. You may also find a track on a compilation or greatest-hits album.
Download music before you head out. Save songs for offline listening before travelling, commuting or heading somewhere with limited internet access. Remember that downloads count toward the allowance shown in your account.
Keep an eye on your downloads. Your Freegal account displays your available download allowance. Check it before downloading more music, as usage limits may apply.
Make room for more music. Downloaded tracks are stored within the Freegal app on your mobile device. If you need to free up storage space, you can remove downloaded tracks from the app.
