As part of our Digital Library Spotlight series, we're introducing one of the free online resources available through Kawartha Lakes Public Library. This month, we're featuring Flipster.
With Flipster, you can read popular magazines anytime, anywhere. Read on your computer, tablet, or smartphone. You can even download magazines to read without an internet connection.
What is Flipster?
Flipster is a free digital magazine service available with your Kawartha Lakes Public Library card. Popular titles include Maclean's, The New Yorker, Bon Appétit, and Cosmopolitan.

Getting Started
What do I need?
To use Flipster, you will need:
- A Kawartha Lakes Public Library card
- An internet connection to get started
- A computer, tablet, or smartphone
How do I get started?
To access any of our digital resources, all you need to do is follow this quick setup:
- Grab your library card: Have your library card number handy. Don't have one yet? You can sign up for a library card online or visit your nearest branch.
- Download the app:

- For mobile users: Download the free Flipster app onto your device:

- Apple iOS: Download on the App Store
- Android: Get it on Google Play
- For desktop or laptop users: Simply visit the Flipster Web Link to read directly in your browser!
- Log in and start reading: Open the app, tap Get Started, and search for Kawartha Lakes Public Library. Log in using your library card number, browse magazines by category or search for a title. Tap the Download button to save a magazine to your device and read it later without internet access.
Reading Offline
Heading to the cottage? Travelling? Spending time somewhere without Wi-Fi?
Simply download your magazines before you leave and enjoy reading even when you don't have Wi-Fi or mobile data.
Inside the App: Helpful Tips
Once you are logged in, keep these features in mind to get the most out of the app:
- Browse by category: Looking for something specific? Select Categories to browse magazines by topics such as food, business, fashion, health, travel, and more.
- Learn more about a magazine: Select the Information icon on a magazine to read a short description and see which back issues are available.
- Manage Your Space: All downloaded magazines live on your My Shelf screen. When you are done reading, you can easily delete them to free up storage on your device.
- Free with your library card: There are no fees to borrow magazines through Flipster. Read current and recent issues anytime with your Kawartha Lakes Public Library card.
