Cards With Heart: Spreading Kindness Across Kawartha Lakes

Cards With Heart was a heartfelt library event inviting patrons of all ages to stop by the Lindsay branch and create a handmade Valentine’s card. Participants of all ages could choose to take their card home or, if they wish, donate it to help spread a little extra joy in the community.

In one week, over one hundred cards were made.  Families worked together at the tables, with some visitors coming specifically to make cards and spending several hours crafting. One group of office colleagues even stopped in during an extended coffee break, using the activity as a team-bonding opportunity while also giving back to the community.

Cards With Heart was also offered at the BGC Drop-In Youth Centre in Fenelon Falls, giving teens a creative way to give back, connect with their community, and make someone’s day brighter through a small act of kindness.

Donated Valentines were lovingly delivered by library staff to residents of local care homes, offering a simple but powerful reminder that they are remembered and valued.

Events like this underline how Kawartha Lakes Public Library acts as a community hub and bridge between generations, helping participants understand the impact of small, thoughtful gestures. The act of giving without expecting anything in return strengthens a sense of empathy, belonging, and shared responsibility for the well-being of others in the community.
