As we work to get the new library branch open, please continue to hold on to you library books. If you need to return your books before the new branch opens in a couple of week, you can return them to any other Kawartha Lakes Library branch. The book return also remains open at the old branch location.
Updated October 24th 2022
Saturday October 29th will be the last day that the Bobcaygeon branch at 21 Canal Street will be open. Both branches will be closed for a few weeks to allow time to move. The new branch at 123 East Street South will be opening sometime in mid to late November. If you placed a hold on items that are located at the Bobcaygeon branch, please allow a few weeks for them to arrive at your preferred branch. Thank you!

Question: Why move locations? |

|
Question: What is going to happen to the building that the library is currently in? |
Answer: Along with the Sheila Boyd Foundation, the City of Kawartha Lakes are currently co-owners of the Boyd Building at 21 Canal Street. The Boyd Heritage Museum will continue to operate and the City hopes to utilize the former library space in a new way while maintaining the historical integrity and community access. The Library does not own the building and have only been tenants in the space. |
Question: What is the timeline for this project? |
Answer: Renovations are currently in progress at 123 East Street South. We hope to welcome you into the new branch by the end of 2022. We hope to confirm an official opening date later in the summer. |
Question: Will there be a disruption to library service? |
Answer: No. The current Bobcaygeon branch will remain up until the new branch is ready to open the doors. During the move the current branch will be closed for a short period before the branch opens. |
Question: What parking will be available at the new location? |
Answer: There will be an increase in parking spaces available. There will be 12 spaces dedicated to library patrons, as well as an additional accessible parking space. |

Answer: The entrance to the new branch will be through the main doors that face County Road 36. There will be a set of stairs there, as well as an AODA compliant accessible ramp. |
Question: What will the hours be at the new location? |
Answer: Branch hours with full library services will remain the same but we are considering allowing patrons access to the building and the collection as early as 8:30am on weekdays. |
Question: What will the space look like at the new location? |
Answer: The branch will have 4 public computers, with accessible work stations and desks. Additionally, there will be a laptop bar where people with mobile devices will be able to work and charge. The branch will have a separate programming and meeting room. The community will be able to book this space when not being used by the library. It will include a large wall-mounted monitor that people will be able to connect laptops and tablets for meetings. This will give the branch enough space for a collection of about 12,000 items (the current library space has a collection of 9,000 items) with plenty of space for comfy seating, study tables and still feel very airy and welcoming. |
